Mesquite, TX (July 16) - Timothy Culp had to dice his way through lapped traffic to take the lead, and the win, of the SUPR Late Model 25-lapper at Devil's Bowl Speedway Saturday night.
Clyde Dunn, Jr. topped the USA Modifieds for the first time this season. Jimmy Staats added to his points lead in the USA Limited Modifieds with his fourth victory in the past month. Harry Hronas led the street stocks to the checkered flag for the third straight week.
#SUPR Late Models Feature Winner
#C8 Timothy Culp
Timothy Culp charged from the inside of the second row as the green flag dropped on the SUPR Late Model main, but had to settle for third as the field came out of turn two and began to spread our. Outside front row starter Jeff Chanler took the lead, with Allen Tippen in second. The top three began to pull away on a fast clear track until they caught lapped traffic on the seventh trip around the Devil's Bowl half-mile oval.
The track was fast and passing slower cars was difficult. On the 13th lap, Tippen went low in turns three and four to snatch the lead from Chanler. Clup followed Tippen past the leader.
Tippen's turn at the point was short as a lap later Culp charged around the top of the same turns and pulled ahead. The race was caution free to the checkered flag as Culp worked past slower cars. Tippen stayed within a couple car lengths all the way to the finish to take second, with Chanler third at the line.
Sixth running Morgan Bagley was unable to avoid a slowing car of B.J. Robinson as they took the checkered flag. The collision tossed Bagley's car into the air, but both drivers were able to walk away from the torn up race cars.
Bubba Mullins passed Jason Ingalls on the last lap to win the second SUPR Late Model heat race. Clup, Tippen and Bagley won the other heats.
#USA Modifieds Feature Winner
#88 Clyde Dunn, Jr.
Richard Miller took the lead of the USA Modifieds main on the start. He battled with Clyde Dunn, Jr. for a couple laps before Dunn made the pass for the lead.
Two cautions slowed the race at the mid-point, but Dunn had no trouble pulling away to take the victory by three car lengths. Points leader Patrik Daniel passed Miller on a seventh lap restart for second, with Miller taking third at the finish.
Dunn and Miller won the USA Modifieds heats.
#USA Limited Modifieds Feature Winner
#39 Jimmy Staats
Jimmy Staats continued his summer domination of the USA Limited Modifieds with his fourth feature win in the past five weekends of racing.
Starting on the outside front row for the 12-lap main, he pulled a couple car lengths ahead of Randy Kirkland. The pair flew around the track with Chris Cleveland third until a ninth lap caution. Kirkland slowed suddenly on the restart and dropped out, with Cleveland moving to second and Mike Meeks Jr. taking advantage to move up to third.
Jeff McGibboney topped a close first heat race with Michael Daniels winning the other heat.
#Street Stocks Feature Winner
#92 Harry Hronas
It took Harry Hronas a while to find victory lane this year, but once there, he is not letting anyone else run out front. He paced the street stocks from the drop of the green flag to the checkered flag, putting most of the front straight between himself and second place Jeremy Shawver by the end of the race. Wally Beaty was third.
Scott Prather and Shawver won the street stock hear races.
