Harmon Wins Fast Shafts All-Star Qualifier At Boyd

By Neal Palmer, BOYD, Texas (June 3) – Charlie Harmon took home the $1,000 cash in the 2012 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier for IMCA Modifieds at Boyd Friday night.

Harmon started eighth, went to fifth on lap four, then to fourth on lap six. With Sam Cox way ahead, Harmon had his sights set on the cars in front of him, Randy Martin, Kyle Robinson and Eric Winnett.

They had an intense battle going on for that runner up spot while 10th starting Scotty Brown worked his way into the mix.

On lap nine, Brown took fourth from Harmon. A caution came out at halfway and bunched the field for the restart. Cox was running the rim along with Brown while Robinson and Harmon worked the bottom. Harmon started to gain some ground on Brown as they worked on the first lap after the restart.

Harmon took third back from on lap 12 then got by Robinson to take second on the next circuit.

Harmon finally pulled alongside Cox on lap 16 and then took the lead, bringing Brown along as Cox fell to third.

Cox seems to be having trouble and sails over the top of turn one on lap 17, disappearing over the edge. The caution comes out, Cox reappears on the backstretch and pulls into the hot pit to replace a right rear that went down. He rejoins the field at the back.

With that done, Harmon leads the field onto the backstretch to get back underway with Brown on his bumper and Matt Winnett and Justin Fowler lurking in the next row.

Harmon holds his line, hits his marks and denies Brown for the $1,000 win. Brown survived a last lap charge by Matt Winnett with Fowler and Jason Illich rounding out the top five.
